Cat Hoa Loc Mango – Vietnam’s Premium Mango Variety

Cat Hoa Loc mango is a renowned Vietnamese mango variety originating from Hoa Loc commune, formerly Giao Duc district of Dinh Tuong province (now Hoa Hung commune, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province). This mango is highly appreciated for its naturally sweet taste, refreshing flavor, and distinctive aroma. It is therefore a popular choice among fruit connoisseurs for both personal enjoyment and premium gifting, especially during festive seasons and Lunar New Year.

Today, Cat Hoa Loc mangoes are cultivated not only in their original growing area but also in various regions such as Southeast Vietnam, Tien Giang, and Cao Lanh. However, differences in soil conditions and climate create subtle variations in flavor. Among them, Cat Hoa Loc mangoes grown in Cai Be, Tien Giang province, are still widely regarded as the finest in quality.

These mangoes feature thick, smooth, chewy flesh with very little fiber, delivering a delicate sweetness and refreshing taste combined with an irresistibly pleasant aroma. The fruits are relatively large, typically weighing between 450–600 grams each. When immature, the skin appears emerald green with tiny speckles near the stem; when ripe, it turns lemon yellow with a natural waxy bloom and small dark dots around the stem.

The traditional harvest season for Cat Hoa Loc mangoes runs from March to May. With modern cultivation techniques, growers can now extend the harvest period to approximately October through December, ensuring a longer supply window for both domestic consumption and export.

Cat Hoa Loc mangoes are highly nutritious, rich in essential minerals and vitamins such as vitamins A, B1, and C. These nutrients contribute to children’s development, support skin health, enhance eyesight, help reduce cholesterol levels, and improve lipid metabolism.

This premium mango variety is widely favored across Vietnam, particularly in the southern region, and has successfully reached demanding international markets including France, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and China. In Tien Giang province alone, Cat Hoa Loc mangoes are extensively cultivated across multiple communes in Cai Be district, forming one of Vietnam’s most important mango-growing areas.

Currently, Cat Hoa Loc mangoes are produced under internationally recognized safety standards such as GlobalGAP certification. In addition, Vietnam’s Intellectual Property Office (Ministry of Science and Technology) has granted Geographical Indication (GI) protection to Cat Hoa Loc mangoes, affirming their origin and quality reputation.

Compared with some other mango varieties, Cat Hoa Loc mangoes are moderately sized, usually under half a kilogram per fruit. They have an elongated shape with a slightly pointed tip and a distinctive rounded protrusion near the stem. When ripe, the mango develops a bright golden-yellow color, thin skin with a characteristic natural bloom, and small brown speckles on the surface.

Consumers are particularly attracted to Cat Hoa Loc mangoes for their vibrant appearance, firm yet smooth flesh, minimal fiber, and exceptionally sweet flavor. Once cut open, the fruit releases a gentle, elegant aroma rarely found in other mango varieties grown elsewhere.

Today, visitors to Cai Be district in Tien Giang province can easily encounter lush mango orchards filled with ripening fruit. The golden-yellow mangoes hanging heavily on the trees create a highly appealing landscape. If you have the opportunity to visit Tien Giang and explore Cai Be, enjoying freshly harvested Cat Hoa Loc mangoes is an experience not to be missed. Tasting the fruit straight from the orchard often leaves visitors with a deeper appreciation for this fertile agricultural region.
